Flasktext: Caledonian's Merman XXX, first trade marked in 1890, is impressively complex, with robust, interwoven malt and hop flavours that persist well past the last swallow.
Merman recreates the beer type exported from Edinburgh at the turn of the century when extra hops were added to preserve the beer during the long voyage to the colonies. Legend has it the name is derived from a rock formation in the Firth of Forth eagerly looked for by the sailors returning from India.
Hand crafted in the original Victorian brewhouse and brewed in Britain's last remaining direct-fired open coppers, Caledonian's Merman XXX is a fitting link to our brewing heritage.
